There are times when people in the books you read become as real to you as if you’ve known them all your life. You ache for them, glory in their triumph, cry at their pain. When this happens, you know you’ve discovered one of those books. You read it again and again, and then once more. Just to stay in touch.

THE MAN I LOVE

BY SUANNE LAQUEUR

In The Man I Love, Suanne Laqueur has written the epic journey of two souls meant to be together but torn apart by a very modern tragedy, one that is becoming all too familiar. One decision destroys everything when a young man gives in to his pain and anger, setting forces in motion that shape lives for years. This is the story of Daisy and Erik, of Will and Lucky and David, of a journey back to where love began and the rebuilding of something that will withstand it all, if courage and love can surmount human failing.

“A new kind of romance, well-crafted and intelligently written. Suanne Laqueur deftly explores what it means to be vulnerable, resilient and human.”

Once Upon a Time…

There’s just something magical about a story. Not the kind of magic with wands, fairy dust, and handsome princes who can do no wrong, but real magic…the kind that is inspired by a good tale.

It’s what keeps me writing, what makes me so delighted to share my work with others. It’s the magic that happens when I put pen to paper, or fingers to keyboard, and that blank page fills with words that tell a story.

And once upon a time a group of eighteen writers came together and decided to share their magic with the world. None of these people knew each other except through their online collaboration. None of us would recognize another of our writing family if we passed on the street. And that street could be anywhere in the world, because these amazing people come from six different countries around the globe, and four continents. They range in age from twenty to seventy-two. What binds them all together is the love of story, and a passion that has become as necessary as breathing.

I am proud to be counted among their number. My short story, “The Wolf in the Closet”, takes its place among those others in a lovely new anthology entitled, fittingly, Once Upon a Story. Every genre you can think of is represented between its pages.

And here it is. Once Upon a Story–A Short Story Anthology.

And of course, if you enjoy it please leave a review, or share the link on your social media. (Even magical people like writers need all the help they can get.)

Sometimes history begins to fade into…well…history. It is times like these that we need a story to rescue us, to teach us that it all mattered, that human strength, resilience and the refusal to give up hope could save even the smallest and most insignificant during a time of incredible cruelty and desperation. The Baker’s Secret is such a book.

The Baker’s Secret

Emmanuelle is a young apprentice to the local baker. Her life is following its prescribed path, until the Nazis take over her village above Normandy Beach. Her mentor is everything a master baker should be, his only sin being that he is a Jew. Left alone, Emmanuelle takes it upon herself to nurture and save the people of her village, one loaf of bread at a time. This story will stay with you for a long time.

A tale beautifully, wisely, and masterfully told.” — Paula McLain, author of The Paris Wife and Circling the Sun

I read a lot, and cry a lot while reading if the book deserves my tears. That’s just me. My emotions are very close to the surface and I make no apologies for that. Every so often I read a book that stays with me, haunts me if you will, and follows me around long after I finish it. This is where you’ll find my thoughts on those books. They’re special.

Beyond

by Catrina Haverlock & Angela Larkin

Beyond grabbed me right from the cover, a misty couple obviously in love, with the words “Her life had just begun, but his had already ended.” Oh, yeah.

The descriptions of Landon’s death and its aftermath were beautiful in their horrifying realism and in the emotions evoked in those he left behind. Presley’s adjustment to a hostile new school is compounded by her growing feelings for a boy who calls to her in the deepest recesses of her heart–a boy who has been dead for months. I had to keep reading to see how this impossible relationship could ever work, and the authors did not disappoint.

Sometimes a book sneaks up on you and delivers a punch straight to the heart. A story that should be too sad, too tragic, but instead leaves you gasping for air and amazed at the resilience of the human spirit and the power of love.
